Singing
As for my experience as a singer, I had the privilege of learning from, and playing music with some great musicians in Barcelona, who gave an important impulse to jazz in the city during the late eighties and nineties, and have been fundamental in creating the Spanish music scene of today. Many of them were involved with the Taller de Musics, and El Musical de Bellaterra. I later became part of the faculty as a voice teacher at both of these institutions.
Of the various collaborations and projects I have taken part in, my CD, "Come Rain or Shine" (Fresh Sound New Talent) is one of the most important to me. It was recorded in 1996, with Eladio Reinón, Jordi Rossy, Ben Waltzer, Chris Cheek, and David Mengual. "Don´t Git Sassy", a production by Bellaterra Música, and the direction of Eladio Reinón, was also a very exciting project, a challenge to sing with a big band which included many great players. |
Background
Born in Chicago, I was educated in the U.S. and Spain. After receiving my BA in French Language and Literature at Boston University I moved to Barcelona and made it my home. My first step was to get involved in film and I dreamed of it becoming my life career, until I received a prize for Best Original Music in the San Sebastian Film Festival for a short film I had made about my mother´s artwork. I realized that my true interest was in music, so I changed direction and started singing. As a child I had always been a good listener, while learning how to play the piano, or speaking Spanish, or appreciating the nuances of different accents, such as the many variants of English the world over. I was also the official translator for other members of my family. So singing was that perfect mixture of a musical expression and the vocal one as well. I could use the same ear for vocal tone as I had for the perception of accent. And it was a great way to express myself.
Finally, after this journey, I have come to coaching, where I am able to incorporate the art of listening to hear my clients as best as possible, and to support them in the most effective way possible. That is my mission.
